Event Details

In recent years, awareness has increased in China regarding the necessity of ethical values and practices in business. Yet, ethical values and practices are deeply rooted in a country's philosophical-cultural heritage and social order. This might pose a dilemma for multinational enterprises (MNEs) operating in China: Which ethics – Western or Eastern - should be adopted? Are ethical values universal? Should some values be preferred over others?

While we can see steady growth in localization of Human Resource Management (HRM) practices among MNEs in China, localization of ethical principles has so far been neglected. While localization of HRM practices mainly requires a solid understanding of contemporary Chinese culture, implementing ethical values and practices requires a profound knowledge of China's moral and philosophical heritage. Until today, MNEs' corporate ethics strategies do not reflect a deep understanding of the Chinese philosophical-cultural heritage. This results in leadership practices and organizational culture and values often remaining Western-centric, missing an essential aspect of business integration, and passing on local values.

The German Chamber of Commerce in China | Shanghai, in partnership with The British Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, invites you to a webinar on how values from Daoism could be applied in corporate culture and leadership. After an introduction on Daoism and its application in corporate ethics, a panel with two multinational companies will share their implementation of their CSR strategy and further insights such as cultural differences.

We welcome HR, CSR, and PR professionals, as well as anyone interested to experience a fresh approach to business, ethics, and philosophy, to join!
