Hosted by the People & Culture Committee of the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai, this Roundtable will bring together senior professionals and business leaders to explore a deceptively simple question: when performance needs to improve, should organisations invest first in their people or in the system around them?

In this session, two experts will engage in a dialogue to explore on a topic that organisations and leaders face every day: should organisations prioritise investment in in individual capability, skills, behaviours and leadership, or are they too often trying to solve through people development what are fundamentally problems of structure, processes, incentives, roles or management practices.

Following the dialogue, participants will join the discussion, bringing their own experience and perspectives to examine where organisations commonly misdiagnose performance problems, how investment choices are made, and what it takes to identify the real constraint.

The goal of the session is to leave with sharper questions, useful perspectives and practical insights for making better performance investments.
