Join us on the evening of Thursday, 3 June for the British Business in China: Position Paper 2021 Shanghai launch event.

The British Business in China: Position Paper is BritCham's flagship publication, amplifying the voices of British companies across Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong and Southwest China as we raise the regulatory barriers and recommendations for market reform. The 2021 Paper will be launched in Beijing on 26 May. On the evening of 3 June, we invite Shanghai members to join the Shanghai launch event. 


St. John Moore, Chairman of BritCham in China, will share the key findings of the 2021 Paper and also this year's key recommendations. St. John will then join Alex Roberts and Caroline Taylor for a panel discussion and take questions from the audience.

    St. John provides counsel to Chinese and foreign companies on matters related to public affairs, issue and crisis management, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, and long-term corporate reputation management. He has been based in Beijing since 1999 and through that time has worked with a wide variety of foreign companies operating in China and Chinese companies going global.

    St. John joined Brunswick in 2008 following seven years at APCO Worldwide where he advised foreign multinationals on investment, public affairs, government engagement, and corporate communications issues across China.

    Recent issue and crisis counsel includes high profile environmental incidents; multi-jurisdictional product recalls; food and safety recalls; anti-corruption investigations; intellectual property litigation; bankruptcy and criminal matters; class action cross-border lawsuits; and corporate espionage matters. He has advised on Chinese companies going global, including the acquisition of key assets and integration matters, as well as foreign companies acquiring assets in China.

    St. John currently serves as Chair of the British Chamber of Commerce in China.

    Alex is a corporate and technology lawyer in Linklaters’ China team. He advises on a wide range of TMT-related issues such as cybersecurity and data protection, IP licensing and digital platform establishment.

    Alex’s clients cover a wide range of sectors, including TMT, automotive, consumer, healthcare and financial services. His recent experience includes advising: a multinational company on the data protection aspects of its proposed acquisition and integration of a snack retailer in China; one of world’s largest providers of cancer and cardiac care services on the data protection considerations of establishing a remote diagnosis platform in partnership with Chinese hospitals; a multinational automotive enterprise on data transfers, consumer protection and unfair contract terms in respect of its proposed electric car online remote update systems; and a large UK-based telecoms group on cybersecurity and communications interception issues in China. Alex holds an executive MBA from China Europe International Business School.

    Caroline Taylor has been an educator for over 30 years. She started her career in the UK and has taught in both UK state and private schools. Caroline has been in international education for the last 20 years and she has taught in schools in Thailand and China. She has been in school leadership for her entire overseas career. Caroline has held positions as diverse as Whole School Assessment Coordinator, Head of Middle School, Deputy Head Academic and Head of Senior School. She has been working with Dulwich College International for the past 10 years and during that time she has held the positions of Deputy Head Academic, Head of Senior School and now Head of College. She has worked in both Beijing and Shanghai.

He covers all of mainland China and the region, with a focus on the economy and business but reporting on a wide range of events and issues across the country. Robin works across the BBC’s multiple platforms on TV, global and UK domestic radio, and online. He has been a working journalist for more than 20 years, reporting from numerous places across the UK, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Robin was a Political Correspondent, reporting from the UK parliament at Westminster, before moving to China in 2015.
