Event Details

Update: This event will be hosted on Fri, 25 Feb. Venue details will be released soon.

This session is part of BritCham Shanghai's SDG event series and focuses on SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy

To expand the access to affordable, reliable and clean energy, it is crucial to enhance energy efficiency and to invest in renewable energy. Increasing the use of hydrogen -- a gaseous element in great abundance – has been seen as a key to help support the reduction of carbon dioxide's emissions, which is one of the main greenhouse gases driving climate change.

As the largest hydrogen producer in the world, China manufactures 25 million tonnes of the stuff each year, out of a global total of about 70 million tonnes.

In September 2021, China's state-backed industry group the China Hydrogen Alliance has unveiled an initiative calling for the building of 100GW of renewable hydrogen production capacity by 2030. This initiative urges China's industry sector to carry out research projects for the future use of hydrogen, creation of a "unified renewable hydrogen market", development of a renewable hydrogen policy partnering upstream and downstream enterprises, as well as the creation of global standards to "unblock" international renewable hydrogen investment and trade.

At this event, BritCham Shanghai is delighted to bring together extraordinary speakers to share their insights on the development of hydrogen energy in China and how the industry sector can work together to increase substantially the share of green hydrogen in the energy mix.
