Event Details
Based on the Position Paper of the British Chambers of Commerce in China published in June this year, addressing cybersecurity continued to be one of the key issues of concern among members. BritCham Shanghai invites you to a morning seminar and panel discussion on:
- The latest developments in the world of cybersecurity
- What businesses are doing to navigate an ever-changing regulatory landscape
Since the launch of the Cybersecurity Law in 2017, the data protection regime in China has continued to evolve with new and revised drafts of implementation rules and guidance. This year saw release of the draft Data Security Law and, just last month, the draft of the long-awaited Personal Information Protection Law. Together with the Cybersecurity Law, these laws seek to lay out a framework for regulation of the digital economy in mainland China which has been further accelerated by Covid-19. The new laws take reference from international rules such as the European Union's GDPR but also have distinct Chinese characteristics. Businesses will need to adapt because sanctions for non-compliance may reach as high as RMB50 million or 5% of annual revenues.
Whether members are simply seeking to ensure that current operations comply with the existing regulatory regime, or looking to how it will impact new or further inbound investment, the current and proposed landscape needs to be understood. The Chamber and Legal & Compliance Committee invite member firm Linklaters to lead a session which seeks to explain the key developments and hear from industry experts on the key tips to consider and pitfalls to avoid from their experience.
