Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) can be understood as a Company's responsibility towards society, the environment and the community within which it operates. CSR can also be seen as a company's way of increasing its goodwill while ensuring that it gives back to society. In China, the need for CSR can never be over-emphasised and even more so during these times of COVIDโ19.
When faced with severe uncertainty, how can an organisation maintain clarity on its societal purpose? What is the role and responsibility of our business during times of chaos and perhaps even crisis?
In response to the spread of COVID-19, many companies/organisations have activated the power of their global footprint and adopted a multi-pronged approach to address the significant and growing needs of impacted communities around the world.
In this one-hour webinar, Robert Hansor, Director, Sustainability and Climate Change at Deloitte China and Douglas Johnson, Senior Manager, Corporate Responsibility at PwC China will share their corporate experiences of delivering community outreach during the COVID-19 period, as well as make some observations on corporate sustainability, CSR and climate change.
Robert Hansor
The impact of COVID-19 on business has been โ and continues to be โ profound, but what is also striking is the gap between what markets value and what society values. With a rapid recognition of the sacrifice and dedication of medical workers in Wuhan, both companies and the public mobilised to provide support. Companies also prioritised their employees' health whilst continuing to serve their customers. A national effort to share and protect was established. Robert Hansor will discuss these experiences, as well as the implications for corporate sustainability and climate change in this webinar.
Douglas Johnson
Douglas will discuss PwC China's immediate response to COVID-19, and how their team is sharing expertise to assist community NGOs and social enterprises in the medium-term. Further, Douglas will discuss how COVID-19 has impacted two key aspects of community engagement activities โ staff-led volunteering and strategic charity partnerships focused on skills/education. He will show how PwC are adapting to these challenges. Lastly, Douglas will share his thoughts on the future of CSR in an open discussion with with audience. Topics covered will include the role of technology, as well as emerging themes and challenges.
